– I made a tiki bowl of this recently, and I had to blend, add ice, garnish, rinse and repeat as bowl after bowl drained during a big bash I threw. Loved the drink, hated the work. A few nights later I felt like cracking a magazine by myself in my garage bar, but there was no way I was going to make a bowl of sauce just for myself (well, I could have … but knew the wife & kids were gonna be home soon). I tweaked the recipe and came up with this one, which I now bend the elbow with regularly. It calls for an even lemon/lime/orange juice mix, but that’s not that difficult a thing to do. The tart/sweet combo does wonders, so take the time. Just the right mix of sweet and sour, the Kava Cocktail will be one you’ll have to re-pour as the night progresses so when you’re juicing fruit, squeeze a batch.
Here we go –
2 oz white rum
1 oz Barbados rum
3 oz lemon/lime/orange juice
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
3/4 oz orgeat syrup
capful of grenadine
Shake everything w/ cracked ice till frothy, light-pink and ice-cold. Pour up in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime or orange wedge.
